Oh, and anything that might reduce traffic deaths in Israel is CERTAINLY welcome…

At Last….My Mid-Day Nap is Deemed Kosher

Written by Marty Roberts on February 23, 2010 – 10:15 am -

Mid-day Nap
I KNEW there was a reason for my daily, mid-day snooze…..I just didn’t realize that my brain was set up like G-mail!!!

Nap refreshes brain's learning

Taking a mid-afternoon nap may prepare the brain to learn new things, early research suggests.

CBC News

Researchers in the U.S. studied 39 young adults who were divided into two groups. At noon, study participants took a memory test that required them to remember faces linked to names.

Of those in the study, 20 took a nap for 100 minutes. All of the volunteers were then retested at 6 p.m.

Those who stayed awake did about 10 per cent worse on the tests compared with those who napped, Matthew Walker of University of California at Berkeley said. He presented the preliminary findings Sunday at the American Association of the Advancement of Science meeting in San Diego.

Human Rights for Women in Saudi Arabia…2010?

Written by Marty Roberts on February 22, 2010 – 4:02 pm -

Are the so-called “human rights” groups in the Western World, especially America, afraid to speak out about women’s rights in Muslim countries? Maybe they just don’t consider women as “human” enough?

I really don’t get it…

Let a palestinian be delayed for 5 minutes at an Israeli security checkpoint, designed to prevent innocent men, women and children from being brutally murdered…these human rights groups go in to a feeding frenzy…

But brutally surpress one-half of an entire population in Saudi Arabia…not a word…nada…no comment…

Saudi could allow women lawyers in court: reports

Saudi Arabia could soon allow women lawyers to appear in court, though apparently only representing other women, the country’s justice minister said in comments published on Sunday.

“The Office”, Israeli-Style, is on the Way to the Holyland

Written by Marty Roberts on February 22, 2010 – 3:45 pm -

I can’t wait to get another dose of one of my favorite comedy shows on TV, here, in Israel…I wonder how the flavor of the show will change?…The workplace here, in Israel, is nothing like that in America.

Waiting with baited breath…

The Office
Original cast of The Office: Ricky Gervais, Lucy Davis, and Martin Freeman.

Israeli version of hit TV sitcom The Office in the works

An Israeli version of hit TV show The Office is in the works and will feature both Arab and Ethiopian characters, according to reports in the British media.

By Haaretz Service

The show, created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, will be named Super Office and will be set in central Israel, near Tel Aviv. Actor Avi Meshulam will be stepping into the shoes of character David Brent, originally portrayed by Gervais.

The Office has been remade in France, Russia and the United States, where it has turned into a hit, starring Steve Carell.

According to reports, in the Israeli version Gareth becomes Yariv, and Tim and Dawn become Yossi and Dana.

The show also includes a character named Abed, described as “an intellectual Arab with a gentle soul,” and Abba, who is Ethiopian.

“I am thrilled and amazed that Israel is making The Office with local writers, directors and actors,” Gervais was quoted as saying. “I mean, who ever heard of Jewish entertainers?”

Anti-Semitism…The “New”, “PC” Variety

Written by Marty Roberts on February 22, 2010 – 3:30 pm -

This is another example of the “New Anti-Semitism”…That is, good old-fashioned Jew-hating clothed in the mantle of “anti-Zionism”. “I don’t hate Jews, just the Zionist ones. It’s about Israel, not Judaism, they say.” “The persecution of the poor palestinians.” Boloney, BS, cockey, poo….The same old anti-Semitism in it’s modern, politically- correct form. They’ve found a way for their bigotry and hatred to become acceptable, once again, in the parlors of high society…

Just like it was in the 1930′s and 1940′s…before the Holocaust…

The UK and Israel have rarely had an easy relationship

UK officer says views of Israeli forces ‘anti-Semitic’

A former senior British army officer has said international media including the BBC are being exploited by “dark forces” who want to harm Israel.

By John McManus
BBC News

Col Richard Kemp, who was a commander in Afghanistan, said some international criticism of the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) was motivated by anti-Semitism.

He was speaking at a dinner in London hosted by a pro-Israel lobby group.

Col Kemp had defended the actions of the IDF at the UN Goldstone Hearings into the Gaza incursion of 2008.

The Israeli minister for Information and the Diaspora, Yuli Edelstein, was also present at the dinner hosted by the Zionist Federation.

He refused to comment on rumours that the Israeli secret service Mossad had fraudulently used the passports of British citizens during an operation to kill the Hamas boss Mahmoud al-Mabhouh.

Col Kemp, who is now retired from the Army and makes a living from writing, said the advice he received from the Israeli armed forces on how to tackle Afghan suicide bombers had been invaluable, and formed the basis of official army guidelines used by soldiers on the ground there.

It’s About Time!!!

Written by Marty Roberts on February 22, 2010 – 11:55 am -

Naturally, all of Israel’s enemies, including our enemies within, (I’m talking about Israel’s own self-hating Jews and anti-Israel arab citizens) are in a tizzy fit over Bibi’s government decision to officially acknowledge Israel’s rich, ancient Jewish heritage. There can be absolutely no doubt about sited in Hebron and Bethlehem being essential, integral parts of Israel. The Jewish forefathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are buried in Hebron, with their wives, except, of course for Rachel. She is buried outside of Bethlehem. HER tomb was also officially acknowledged by Israel’s government. And don’t forget that King David ruled over the ancient kingdom of Israel from Hebron for SEVEN YEARS before the government moved to Israel’s present and eternal capital, Jerusalem.

It’s about time.
Cave of the Patriarchs

PM grants heritage status to West Bank religious sites

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced yesterday that the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron and Rachel’s Tomb in Bethlehem will be added to the list of the country’s national heritage sites.

By Fadi Eyadat and Jonathan Lis

Speaking at a special cabinet meeting in the northern town of Tel Hai, Netanyahu said that right-wing religious party Shas persuaded him to add the two sites to the list.

“Our existence depends not only on the Israel Defense Forces or our economic resilience – it is anchored in … the national sentiment that we will bestow on the coming generations and in our ability to justify our connection to the land,” Netanyahu said.

Tel Hai, which is part of the kibbutz Kfar Giladi, was the site of a 1920 battle between Zionist settlers and Bedouin. It was led by Joseph Trumpeldor, the one-armed soldier whose fall in battle is cited in Israeli military lore.

The Assassination of the Arch-Terrorist Mabouh in Dubai Was A GOOD Thing

Written by Marty Roberts on February 22, 2010 – 11:35 am -

The thing that I just do not get is, WHAT THE HECK IS ALL THE HUBUB ABOUT?

Whoever killed the arch-terrorist murder Hamas official did the world a HUGE favor. This guy was personally responsible for multiple murders of innocent people. He was the largest arms smuggler into Gaza, threatening the heart of Israel with long-range missiles from Iran. What is the big deal? He’s dead…GREAT!!!…Good riddance, and THANK YOU, WHOEVER did it…

Dubai assassination squad carried diplomatic passports

Police in Dubai said that some of the assassins involved in last month’s killing of a Hamas commander had entered the emirate carrying diplomatic passports.

The claim will intensify the pressure on Israel, whose foreign minister is due to meet David Miliband and other European envoys in Brussels today. Avigdor Lieberman will face questions about allegations that Mossad agents posing as Europeans and travelling on false passports were behind the killing.

Providing fresh details yesterday about the identity of a second group involved in the assassination of Mahmoud al-Mahbhouh, Dubai’s police chief disclosed that up to three of the killers carried documents identifying themselves as foreign diplomats.

What About the JEWISH Refugee Problem in the Middle East?

Written by Marty Roberts on February 22, 2010 – 9:08 am -

The whole world talks about palestinian refugees, but what about the almost one million JEWISH refugees from Arab countries in the Middle East? who is worrying about their rights? Their compensation?…
Iraqui Jewish Refugees

Israeli lawmakers are seeking a law that will make compensation for Jewish refugees expelled from Arab countries after 1948 an integral part of any future peace negotiations.

Lawmakers put together a bill demanding compensation on behalf of current Jewish Israeli citizens, who were expelled from Arab countries after Israel was established in 1948, leaving behind a significant amount of valuable property.

Originally submitted almost a year ago to the Knesset, the bill passed its first hearing two weeks ago. Now various interest groups are pushing the bill with the Knesset’s 120 members before it is subjected to a second and third hearing next week.

The bill was sponsored by MK Nissim Ze’ev (Shas) and follows a resolution passed in the US House of Representatives in 2008, calling for refugee recognition to be extended to Jews and Christians similar to that extended to Palestinians in the course of Middle East peace talks.

Gaza Blockade?…I Don’t Think So

Written by Marty Roberts on February 21, 2010 – 4:24 pm -

Hmmmm…Maybe Israel ought to be pressuring the United States to open up HER southern border. After all, the Mexicans trying to get in to the U.S. aren’t really trying to blow too many things up, are they? I think that they mostly want to work menial jobs that most Americans don’t want, and take care of their families.

Unlike Israel’s not-so-friendly neighbors to the south (Gaza), who continue to assault Southern Israel with rockets, mortars, missiles and suicide bombers…

What’s good for the goose, eh?

Barak Obama
U.S. President Obama

Congressmen press Obama on Gaza blockade

Fifty-four members of Congress send letter to US president urging him to pressure Israel into ending ‘collective punishment of Palestinian residents of the Gaza Strip’

Yitzhak Benhorin

WASHINGTON – Fifty-four congressmen sent a letter to US President Barack Obama last week urging him to pressure Israel into alleviating the blockade on the Gaza Strip. The letter’s signatories are from the left of the political spectrum.

The initiators are Congressman Keith Ellison of Minnesota, the only Muslim representative in Congress, and Jim McDermott of Washington, who are both democrats.

The letter reads: “We recognize that the Israeli government has imposed restrictions on Gaza out of a legitimate and keenly felt fear of continued terrorist action by Hamas and other militant groups. This concern must be addressed without resulting in the de facto collective punishment of the Palestinian residents of the Gaza Strip.”

Full Story

They implored Obama to demand Israel relieve the residents of the Strip as part of his efforts to achieve peace in the Middle East.

“We ask you to press for immediate relief for the citizens of Gaza as an urgent component of your broader Middle East peace efforts,” the letter said.

The initiative is not slated to develop into legislation in Congress, nor is it expected to make waves beyond receiving a headline in the Minnesota Independent newspaper and support of the Peace Now and J-Street organizations in the US.

The US administration’s current public stance is that the US is committed to the welfare of the residents of the Gaza Strip and that Israel must enable the transfer of humanitarian goods into Gaza.

However, in recent months the US has been satisfied with Israeli mitigations in the area. The Obama administration would like to see more easements, but is understanding towards the Israeli position that until the matter of captive soldier Gilad Shalit Israel resolved, there will be no more easements.

The US opposes the Fatah-Hamas Palestinian unity government and is assisting Egypt in the construction of the underground barrier between Egypt and Gaza, which will block the entrance of vital goods into the Strip.
