Should Every Jew Live In Israel?
(You can listen to Rav Shlomo’s lesson on this player, or download it to your computer)
The Torah portion that we read in synagogue this Sabbath is Parshat Shelach, which tells the story of the Spies and their ill-fated reconnoitering of the God’s gift to the Jews, The Land of Israel. Amazingly, these spies, who, by the way, were the greatest leaders, scholars and righteous men of the generation of Moses himself, came back with a negative report about Israel that resulted in 40 years of wandering in the generation for Moses and his generation, as well as the ultimate day of misery in the Jewish calendar, Tish b’Av, the 9th day of the month of Av. And, also, not to be ignored, the fact that everything that the spies said WAS TRUE!!! So what’s the deal? What’s going on here???
I defer to the lesson given this week by Rabbi Shlomo Katz, the amazing singer, Rabbi and teacher, who shares 45 minutes of amazing words about this Torah portion and the events surrounding the spies.
And it’s quite the primer on the subject of Jews making aliyah and living in the Land of Israel.
