FIFA Will Now Allow the Iranian Girls Soccer Team to Compete While Wearing a Hijab Head Covering
Written by Marty Roberts on May 3, 2010 – 1:58 pm -Although I don’t really like the taste of this story,,,why SHOULDN’T girls be allowed to play soccer wearing a head covering???
FIFA never really gave a good reason for NOT allowing the Iranian girls team to wear the hijab-head covering..maybe because there really isn’t any good reason…
Let freedom ring…(as long as the Muslims don’t threaten to start rioting unless EVERY girl wears one…)
FIFA Lifts Ban on Hijab-Clad Iranian Girls
The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) overruled an earlier verdict banning Iran’s female footballers from observing Islamic code of dressing in the Olympic Games in Singapore, and allowed Iranian women footballers to wear Islamic dress during the competitions
Reprinted from FARS News Agency
Earlier in March, FIFA had banned the Iranian women football squad wearing Hijab from participating in the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) which will be held from August 14 to 26 in Singapore.Following the announcement, Head of Iran’s Football Federation Ali Kaffashian along with Member of the Federation’s International Relations Omid Jamali travelled to Switzerland to meet FIFA President Sepp Blater and FIFA Secretary-General Jerome Valcke on April 14.
The Iranian side could convince Blater and Valcke that the Iranian girls’ new wearing would not violate FIFA rules, noting that the entire world should respect Muslims’ rights and consider Islamic rules and values as a crucial factor when dealing with the Muslim countries’ women football teams.
Following the discussions in Switzerland, FIFA wrote a letter to Kaffashian, announcing its agreement with the Iranian girls’ Islamic code of dressing.
In its letter, FIFA said that if the hat covers the hair without violating the game’s rules and the girl footballers can use it, participation of the Iranian girls in the Olympic competitions in Singapore will be unimpeded.
FIFA also ordered the relevant bodies to take all the requirements to register the Iranian under-15 female footballers, stressing that there is no problem for the participation of the Iranian girls in the Singapore Olympic games.

Does This Look Like Apartheid in Israel To You?..If So, Better Get Your Eyes Checked
Written by Marty Roberts on March 3, 2010 – 4:04 pm -From Dubai, of all places…
Kind of ironic..Dubai/UAE STILL does not recognize the State of Israel even exists…But I SURE seem to be hearing an awful lot of Dubai stuff in the news these days…
BTW…Just one more blow to those claiming apartheid exists in Israel…Sure doesn’t look like it from this, does it?…

Israeli cricket wins Dubai prize
Israel Cricket Association cited for cross-border program bringing together Jews, Bedouins
Reprinted from YNet News Anat Shalev
The Dubai-based International Cricket Council has awarded the Israel Cricket Association with a prize for a cross-border initiative bringing together Jews and Bedouins in the southern Negev desert. The winning project was initiated by Stanley Perlman, the Israel Cricket Association’s chairman.
The Association’s director, Naor Gudker, who is also an international umpire, told Ynet that cricket is among the top three sports in Asia and in many Arab states, including Pakistan and Dubai.
“A very high percentage of the managers, players, and coaches in global cricket are Muslims,” he said. “We do not feel that we are met with revulsion in Muslim states, such as Malaysia, where we played in 1997.”
Gudker expressed his excitement over the latest award, which joins a similar prize won by the Israeli association in 2001.
“It’s a huge achievement. It’s a project we promoted that was warmly received across the world,” he said. “This award in general and the project in particular are a good example of how cricket can bridge, bring compromise, and teach us to accept others.”
The next move is to make cricket accessible to Arab Israelis in Israel’s north, he said.
Gudker used the opportunity to criticize authorities for failing to offer cricket the support it deserves.
“Cricket is rather developed in Israel – there are 21 teams, school leagues, and youth leagues…in Beersheba, 2,000 kids are involved in projects related to the sports. Yet nonetheless, the State is unwilling to build a central cricket stadium and upgrade the sports to an international level,” he said.

Israeli tennis star continues superb performance, set to meet Venus Williams next
Associated Press
Published: 02.18.10, 21:20 /
A year after she was stopped from playing in the Dubai Championships, Israeli tennis star Shahar Peer is proving unstoppable in reaching the semifinals on Thursday.Unseeded Peer beat her third seed in four matches when No. 8 Li Na, the Australian Open semifinalist, retired with back spasms. Peer was leading 7-5, 3-0.
Peer, who has also beaten No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki and No. 13 Yanina Wickmayer, will meet defending champion Venus Williams.
“I’m beating so many good players,” Peer said. “It’s really good and I’m happy by the way I’m playing. I think I’m playing very, very good, and everything is coming together. So I just hope to keep going.”
‘She’s so brave’
Peer, who was been surrounded by security and played only on the most secure court at Aviation Club, earned the admiration of Williams.“She’s so brave and she’s got so much character. I can’t imagine being in her shoes,” Williams said.
“I can’t imagine playing so well with this kind of circumstance. I don’t think anyone else on tour could do what she’s doing.”
Last year, Peer’s visa was denied by the United Arab Emirates for security reasons, so the WTA Tour punished the tournament organizers with a heavy fine.
She’s into at least the semifinals for the third time this year.

Missiles Rain on Southern Israel and FIFA Threatens Sanctions After IDF Shells an Empty Field
Written by Marty Roberts on April 7, 2006 – 3:30 pm -In today’s show, I focus on threats by the international controlling body of soccer, FIFA, against Israel.
I talk about the ongoing daily missile barrage against southern Israel, and the measures that Israel’s defense establishment have taken to stop the attacks.
Apparently, Israeli artillery hit a soccer field in Gaza, and FIFA is furious, threatening severe sanctions. The dialogue taking place between Israel and FIFA is incredibly surreal, threatening my sanity, as I share the inside scoop with you…
Not to mention the new, improved missiles and launchers being developed, courtesy of the Palestinian Authority and YOUR tax dollars.
Shabbat Shalom!!!
Missiles Rain on Southern Israel and FIFA Threatens Sanctions After IDF Shells an Empty Field
Has FIFA lost its mind?…Has the entire WORLD lost its collective mind?
The daily missile barrage on Israel continues and even worsens, and we respond by attacking empty fields
…and the Europeans blame Israel for the palestinian soccer teams poor showing
…and for the poor start of the palestinian soccer league…
Is there ANYONE still sane around here?…
Plus…New, improved missiles and launchers against Israel are on the way…
Courtesy of YOUR taxpayer dollars…

Shay Doron: Israeli Sports Star in America
Written by Marty Roberts on April 5, 2006 – 4:15 pm -Have you noticed who led the U. of Maryland Terrapins to victory in the NCAA women’s basketball championships?
It was Shay Doron of Israel. The starting guard led her team to a huge upset victory over Duke in a dramatic second-half comeback, after being down by 13 at the break.
“…Toliver had 16 points, four assists and just three turnovers in the title game. Final Four Most Outstanding Player Laura Harper and Shay Doron also scored 16 for the Terrapins, who were charter members of the Final Four 25 years ago but struggled before Frese took over the program in 2002….”
Shay was 6 for 6 free throws, coming back to play tough, Israeli style, after being physically pounded by Duke players towards the end of the game.
She came to U. Maryland from Great Neck, NY, but played in Tel Aviv before that, having led the Israel National Team to a Div B European championship in 2005. That same year she also led the US team to victory in the Maccabi games.
Shay, we’re proud of you here, in Israel, but we’re waiting for you to come back home!!!

Today’s Edition of “The Marty Roberts Show” is On Now
Written by Marty Roberts on April 5, 2006 – 4:01 pm -In today’s show, I focus on sport in Israel, highlighting Ellen and my running in the 14th annual Jerusalem Half Marathon earlier this week. I focus on the current state of amateur participatory sports, like running and cycling, in Israel.
Things sure have changed since I first started running in Israel 7 years ago. At that time, my wife and I had the roads to ourselves. Now, every highway and byway in the country is loaded with health-seeking missiles, running, walking and biking away at all hours of the day and night (literally!)
With all of the amateurs out training morning noon and night, you would think that participation in the racing events would expand, but the competitive Israeli mentality apparently doesn’t allow for that. It’s still almost all “speedy-fasts” that show up at the running events, leaving the slugs like yours-truly FAR behind the pack.
More to come later on the race experience.
I also talked about miracles in today’s show, those that choose to believe in them, and those that don’t.
