Any Humanitarian Aid That Was on The “Free Gaza” Flotilla is Already Being Delivered to Gaza…By Israel

Flotilla of Aid

View the Video

IDF forces unload the humanitarian cargo from
the Gaza Flotilla and bring the aid through the Kerem Shalom crossing.

An average of 10,000 tons of aid a week are imported into the Gaza Strip in
coordination with international organizations through the land crossings.
However, there remains a maritime closure on the strip as Hamas continues to
smuggle weapons through tunnels for use against Israeli civilians.

Flotilla of Humanitarian Aid to Gaza…Or Just “Ships of Fools”?

Written by Marty Roberts on May 28, 2010 – 1:17 pm -

Please, Don’t confuse me with the facts…

New Show/Podcast!!!

Flotilla of Aid

The inevitable confrontation between the Israeli Navy and the so-called “Humanitarian Aid” flotilla of ships on the way to Gaza should take place tomorrow, on the Sabbath. It might be worth your while to understand just what Israel’s maritime blockade is all about before listening to all the media condemnations of Israel’s policy. It just might have something to do with the fact that Gaza is currently under the control of the terrorist organization, Hamas. Israel is currently engaged in an armed conflict with Hamas.

Oh, and by the way, there IS NO humanitarian crisis taking place in Gaza…thanks to Israel. Be brave enough to listen to the facts, presented right here…Plus…Protests against Disney’s crowning of a Jew as Hollywood’s next “Prince of Persia”…

South African Judge Goldstone Brings New Meaning to the Word “Hypocrisy”..Not to Mention “Self-Hating Jew”

Written by Marty Roberts on May 7, 2010 – 12:54 pm -

South African Judge Goldstone, author of the lie-filled condemnation of Israel’s self-defense war against Hmas in Gaza, has brought hypocrisy to new heights…

Judge Goldstone

Judge Goldstone..People Who Live in Glass Houses..

And he’s also Jewish, no less…Talk about self-hating Jews…

This guy saw fit to fill an official UN report on the war in Gaza with lies, alleging Israel was guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity, while overlooking the years of missile and rocket attacks against helpless Israeli civilians. Now, it comes out that Goldstone was an active participant in South Africa’s cruel and immoral apartheid regime…that he was personally responsible for sending at least 28 black defendants to their death by hanging.

Shame on you, Judge Goldstone. I was ashamed of you after your report came out, but now…I can hardly find the words…

Judge Goldstone’s dark past

Yedioth Ahronoth investigation reveals man preaching human rights, who authored scathing report against Israel’s operation in Gaza, sent at least 28 black defendants to gallows as South African judge under Apartheid regime

Reprinted from Ynetnews.com Tzadok Yehezkeli

He asserted that Israel committed war crimes and came out against the Israel Defense Forces, whom he claimed violated basic human rights. Judge Richard Goldstone forgot just one thing – to look long and hard in the mirror and to do some soul-searching before he rushes to criticize others.

A special Yedioth Ahronoth investigation reveals Richard Goldstone’s dark side as a judge during the Apartheid era in South Africa. It turns out, the man who authored the Goldstone Report criticizing the IDF’s actions during Operation Cast Lead took an active part in the racist policies of one of the cruelest regimes of the 20th century.

During his tenure as sitting as judge in the appellant court during the 1980s and 1990s sentenced dozens of blacks mercilessly to their death.

This stain on Goldstone’s past kept him from coming out against the death penalty on many occasions and from vehemently criticizing countries who still allow executions. Goldstone didn’t bother confessing and telling about his actions in any of his statements or speeches.

The Next War in Gaza Seems Inevitable…The Only Question is “When?”

Written by Marty Roberts on March 28, 2010 – 6:00 pm -

Not that we are at all happy about it. This is MY neighborhood that we are talking about. My sons are in the Israeli Army. The handwriting has been on the wall for a long time, now. I have seen the coming war as inevitable since the end of the LAST war in Gaza. That’s because the Israeli government did not let the IDF finish the job.
What needed to be done before the Israeli army left Gaza, and STILL needs to be done:
1. Destroy, completely Hamas’s military ability, including weapons, supplies, command and control, military leadership.
2. Destroy ALL the smuggling routes used to replenish weapons supplies…and take control of the entire border area with Egypt where these weapons flow…that is, RE-take control of the Philadelphia corridor.
3. Remove Hamas from power in Gaza. They must be replaced by either more moderate Palestinian Authority leadership, or Israel has no choice but to re-take control until there is a reasonable alternative to fill the void.
I learned in dental school, long, long ago, that “There is never enough time to do the job right, but there is ALWAYS is enough time to do the job OVER”…
I can only hope that, if and when we DO do the job right, the price in Israeli blood will not be high…

Residents of south Israel fear another war brewing

Communities surrounding Gaza say death of two soldiers in Gaza Friday, along with continuous rocket fire, may be sign full-blown military conflict nearing. ‘We don’t deserve to live like this,’ Kfar Aza resident says

Reprinted from Ynetnews.com Tova Dadon

Residents of Israel’s southern region view the incident in which two soldiers were killed in Gaza Friday, along with the continuous rocket and mortar fire emanating from the Hamas-ruled territory, as a possible prelude to a full-blown war.

“There is a sense that we are on the brink of another war,” a member of Kibbutz Kfar Aza told Ynet on Saturday.

“Mortars have been falling here for a week now, just like in Operation Cast Lead,” said Orit Arjento, “I am in constant stress; running to the Internet to see if there is any news and debating whether I should close the window or leave it open, because of the mortars.

“Fortunately we have a secure room in our apartment, but still, jumping out of bed and making sure that all of the children made it to the secure room is not easy at age 52,” she said.

Prior to the launching of Operation Cast Lead, a mortar landed on the Arjento family home, directly hitting the room of teenage daughter Shir.

“We don’t deserve to live like this,” said Orit, who invited 30 guests from all over the country to attend the Pesach Seder.

“I can’t tell them (guests) that it is completely safe here. The ‘Color Red’ alert sounds on occasion,” she said.

Yoav Peled, security officer for the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council said, “This is the reality, and we’ve almost learned to live with it – after eight years (of rocket fire) and after the war.

“There is a sweeping decision not leave the region. I can’t say that everyone thinks as I do, but I can say with certainty that since Operation Cast Lead more and more people have relocated to the council’s communities; our kibbutzim are full,” he said.

Israel Lost 2 More Fine Young Men Last Night to Palestinians in Gaza…We Must Wipe Out This Evil

Written by Marty Roberts on March 27, 2010 – 11:12 pm -

The Hamas terrorist palestinians are feeling their oats in light of recent developments out of Washington. They are jumping on the opportunity presented by Obama-Clinton and Co.’s outrageous attacks on Israel…and Israel is paying the price of their increasingly brazen attacks in blood…
Last night’s deaths raise the toll to three young Israeli soldiers killed in the past week. The coming re-clash in Gaza seems to be inevitable, in spite of Goldstone and the rest of the world’s attempts to usurp Israel’s right to self defense. But we must not be stopped. The evil growing and prospering on all sides of Israel must be wiped out once and for all. The safety of the innocent citizens of Israel must be guaranteed…not by US promises, but by the IDF, Israel’s proud army.
The UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon has good reason to be concerned, and he’d best not try to interfere with Israel’s right to peaceful borders.
And how tragic is it that, instead of Israel’s defense minister Barak worrying more about wiping out the evil threatening Israel, he’s busy worrying about satisfying the American president by using Israel’s army to destroy Jewish homes…the so-called “illegal outposts”, which are neither illegal nor outposts…Shame on you, Ehud Barak…destroy Israel’s enemies, NOT her citizens’ homes…
Grieving Israeli Family

UN chief ‘concerned’ about Gaza violence

Ban Ki-moon laments incident in which two IDF soldiers were killed, calls for ‘maximum restraint’

Reprinted from Reuters

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on Saturday he was concerned about a clash in the Gaza Strip in which two Israeli soldiers were killed.

“I am very concerned at the escalation of violence and loss of life yesterday in the vicinity of the Gaza border,” Ban told a news conference on the sidelines of an Arab League summit in the Libyan town of Sirte.

“I reiterate my appeals made during my recent visit for maximum restraint and an end to all violence, in particular at this critical time when we are engaged in efforts to revive peace talks.”

Ban was referring to Friday’s incident, in which 32-year-old Major Eliraz Peretz and 21-year-old Staff Sergeant Ilan Sviatkovsky were killed in an exchange of fire with terrorists on the Gaza border. Two Palestinians were killed while trying to plant an explosive device near the border fence.

Two hours later, two more Palestinians were killed in another incident in the area. They were spotted by an IDF force trying to plant an explosive device near the border fence and shot.

The commander of this force was the officer involved in an incident of friendly fire that occurred in Gaza earlier this week, in which a soldier was killed. He led his soldiers into a gun battle in which they were mistaken for terrorists and opened fire upon by Golani soldiers.

On Saturday morning the violence continued when a Qassam was fired towards Shaar HaNegev Regional Council. Meanwhile IDF bulldozers are accompanying IDF tanks in scanning the area on the Palestinian side of the border fence in order to locate other explosive devices. Bushes have been removed in order to improve intelligence.

Major Eliraz Peretz

Mother of fallen soldier: God loves Golani

Miriam Peretz, mother of major killed in gunfight in Gaza, says her son died so Israelis can ‘walk proud’, meanwhile Ynet learns demolition orders have been issued on his home, located in West Bank outpost

Reprinted from Ynetnews.com

The mother of 32-year-old Major Eliraz Peretz, who was killed in a gunfight with Palestinian terrorists in Gaza Friday, gave an interview Saturday in which she called her son “the salt of the earth”.

Twelve years ago Miriam lost another son, Uriel, in Lebanon. Her four sons served in the Golani Brigade.

“I know God loves the Peretz family’s Golani, loves these warriors, loves Eliraz who I will say simply was a hero,” she told her family and guests at the Peretz household.

“My sons are always at the front because officers go in front. He provided a personal example and he was alerted to give aid, so of course he was the first to do so. He didn’t go to die, but went so that I and the people of Israel could live well. My sons died for us all, so that we can walk proud.”

Miriam Peretz added, “In Morocco I went around with my head bowed and I had no freedom. Here in Israel I see my boys in uniform and I’m proud to be Jewish. Eliraz had a gentle soul and a pure soul. He was righteous and pure and a mother could be proud to have such a son.”

The mother read a letter from her son thanking her and his father for signing a form allowing him to serve in combat.

“There are no mothers, on our side or the other side, who want their children dead. I don’t want my children to die. I don’t imagine scenarios of death but rather of life. I teach my children to live in this country heroically.”

Demolition orders issued on Peretz home

Meanwhile Ynet learned Saturday evening that demolition orders have been issued for Peretz’s home in the West Bank outpost of Givat Hayovel, near the settlement of Eli, where his wife and four children reside. The home is an illegal structure.

One of Peretz’s neighbors was Major Roi Klein, who was killed during the Second Lebanon War by jumping on a hand grenade to save his fellow soldiers.

Some of the residents of Eli and Givat Hayovel told Ynet that Peretz took Klein’s family in after his death, inviting them to dinner and teaching the children the Torah.

Try to Imagine What It Would be Like…Rockets and Missiles are Falling Daily on Southern Israel

Written by Marty Roberts on March 22, 2010 – 8:59 am -

Rockets and missiles are falling on Israel EVERY DAY!! Do you understand what that means? These are not little firecrackers. These are not rocks and bottles. These are lethal ROCKETS AND MISSILES! People are being killed. It is expected that Israel will accept as part of our daily life the rain of ordnance upon our heads.
Can YOU imagine this happening in YOUR neighborhood?
How about just ONE lethal rocket falling out of the sky and whistling into the playground of your childrens’ or grandchildren’s pre-school?
What measures would you expect your government to take?
How would you feel if the world and the UN condemned YOU for taking action against those that were threatening your families?
How would you feel if the animals launching the rockets at you day after day were depicted by the world as the victims, not the murderers that they are? Aid convoys and millions of YOUR tax dollars funneled to exactly those same rocket-launching terrorists?
Might you want to do something to stop the flow of supplies for rocket-making into the area (a blockade of sorts, if you will)?
Would you understand it if, occasionally, while striking those that are shooting missiles at your children, once in a while, an innocent civilian or two on the other side was injured, or even killed? Would you understand this and, sorrowfully, accept this as a fact of life, given the evil surrounding you?
Try to imagine, just try to imagine…This is the daily reality of southern Israel…My home…and pray that it NEVER happens to you,,,
Kassam Rocket

Qassam hits south of Ashkelon

No injuries or damage reported as rocket fire emanating from Gaza continues. ‘Terror groups taking advantage of PM’s trip to US,’ local council head says

Reprinted from YNet News Shmulik Hadad

A Qassam rocket fired by Palestinian terrorists in north Gaza Sunday night landed south of Ashkelon. There were no reports of injury or damage.

The rocket landed in an open area within the Ashkelon Beach Regional Council’s limits.

“When they say that the rocket exploded in an open area, from our standpoint it is a field in which farmers work. Therefore, such attacks should be dealt with just as any direct hit on a house,” council head Yair Farjun said.

“I assume the groups that are firing the rockets are taking advantage of the fact our hands our somewhat tied because Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is in the US for meetings. It is not my place to give the security establishment advice – it has proven that it knows what to do against the Palestinian organizations,” he said.

Ashkelon’s Deputy Mayor Shlomo Cohen, formerly a senior official with the Shin Bet security service, said, “We are witnessing a deterioration whereby the rockets are getting closer and closer to Ashkelon. This merely validates our fears and demands for the fortification of educational institutions.”

On Saturday four rockets emanating from the Hamas-ruled coastal enclave landed in open areas in Israel’s Negev region. Another Qassam landed in Palestinian territory near the Kissufim Crossing.

Saturday saw a rocket land near a kibbutz located within Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council limits. There were no injuries or damage, but the IDF retaliated with strikes on a Hamas facility near the defunct airport in south Gaza. The Palestinians said 14 people were injured, among them two seriously.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon crossed into Gaza Sunday morning as part of a regional tour aimed at reviving the Middle East peace process.

Ban was met on the other side of the border by a small group of people waving Palestinian flags. “I’ll go to Gaza to express my solidarity with the plight of the Palestinian people there and to underscore the need to end the blockade,” Ban told reporters on Saturday. He added that the siege was causing “unacceptable human suffering”.

During his meeting with President Shimon Peres Saturday evening, Ban called on Hamas to release Gilad Shalit, and Peres thanked him for scheduling a meeting with the kidnapped soldier’s Shalit’s parents. The UN chief also called on the Palestinians to end rocket attacks from Gaza, while urging Israel to lift the Gaza blockade.

The United Nations Shows Its Colors Once Again…Moon Attacks Israel While Ignoring the Plight of Gilad Shalit

Written by Marty Roberts on March 21, 2010 – 4:19 pm -

More proof of the uselessness of the United Nations. The secretary general felt it was appropriate to visit the territory where an innocent Israeli, Gilad Shalit, has been held hostage against all rules of international law for almost 4 years. No Red Cross visits, no family visits, no verification of the conditions of his “imprisonment”. Not only did Moon visit the terrorist enclave of Gaza, but he used the opportunity to lash out against the “good guys” once again…Israel, of course. (BTW…terrorists held in Israeli jails are afforded regular visits by family members and the Red Cross, not to mention the opportunity to study for and obtain university degrees!)
The UN has outlived the usefulness of its existence…I would not waste another dime on its upkeep…
Ban Ki-Moon

Ban Ki-Moon Blames Israel for Gaza Suffering, Ignores Smuggling

United Nations Secetary-General Ban Ki-Moon visited Gaza Sunday and blamed Israel for its economic woes while ignoring terrorists’ smuggling of weapons for use against Israel and the documented abundance of food and opportunities for Arab exporters.

Reprinted from INN Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu

He also did not mention the resumption of Kassam attacks on southern Israel. The Israel Air Force two days ago bombed several tunnels that Hamas had built for smuggling weapons and for use by terrorists to kidnap IDF soldiers.

The day before, IDF Military Intelligence Director Maj. Gen. Amos Yadlin, briefed Ban on smuggling routes used by Iran via air, land and sea, and the Iranian aid for weapons to Hamas and Hizbullah.

However, Ban focused on Israel’s partial blockade of Gaza and called on Jerusalem to open all crossings for free passage of goods and merchandise. Israel has allowed daily humanitarian aid to flow into Gaza, even during the Operation Cast Lead war against Hamas terrorists last year. It has prohibited routine travel in and out of Gaza because of constant attempts by Hamas and allied terrorists to exploit the transfer of goods to smuggle in terrorists and weapons.

The Gaza economy was growing and prospering in the 1980s and 90s but suffered with the outbreak of the Second Intifada in 2000, also known as the Oslo War, prior to which Jewish communities in the region had employed thousands of Arabs in building and agriculture. Constant terrorist attacks forced Jews to rely on foreign labor, leaving the Gaza economy with higher unemployment.

The employment situation worsened after the 2005 unilateral withdrawal by Israel and the expulsion by the Sharon government of 9,000 Jews in Gush Katif and northern Gaza who had employed Gazan Arabs in agriculture and construction. The military coup staged by Hamas against Fatah three years ago exacerbated the problem.

Despite Egypt’s clamp on its border with Gaza at the city of Rafiah, Ban placed the blame squarely on Israel’s shoulders. Making his second visit to Gaza since the end of Operation Cast Lead, Ban stated, “I have repeatedly made it quite clear to Israel’s leaders that the Israeli policy of closure is not sustainable and that it’s wrong. It causes unacceptable suffering.”

Ban is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu later Sunday.

The UN Says Israel is Responsible for the Excessive Beating of Women in Gaza…By Their Husbands, Fathers and Brothers

Written by Marty Roberts on March 19, 2010 – 2:42 pm -

Leave it to the good-old UN, the “Useless United Nations”, to blame Israel for everything that is wrong in the universe. Probably Israel is the major cause of global warming, not to mention global cooling. And then there is the AIDS epidemic, and, of course Swine Flu. And the bird flu, of course…and don’t forget about the genocide in Darfur and rising oil prices, plus, the damage to Arab economies by falling oil prices. And the famine induced by the Israeli occupation is starving millions annually in Africa, while Jewish control of the world banking system has obviously caused the world economic crisis. I could go on and on, but I’ll leave it to the geniuses at the UN themselves to mention anything I’ve forgotten.
The interesting thing when it comes to domestic violence is, if Israeli policies in Gaza are causing the elevated woman-beating there, how do you explain the SAME statistics in Egypt and the REST of the Muslim world? I guess the UN will figure it out…as long as Israel gets condemned in the end…
Gaza Woman

Gaza Men Beat Women; UN Blames Israel

Violence against women has long been common in Gaza: a Palestinian Women’s Information and Media Center study found that between half and three-quarters of Gaza women are subjected to physical violence from male relatives.

Reprinted from INN Maayana Miskin

A recent report created by IRIN, which provides “humanitarian analysis” in coordination with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, quotes Gaza women in putting the blame for the high rates of violence on Israel. “Widespread unemployment was one of the biggest contributors to household stress, and in turn male violence against women,” the article said in the name of a Gaza women’s center worker. The worker accused Israel of causing high unemployment with an “economic blockade.”

IRIN also quotes the UN Commission on the Status of Women, which last week drafted a resolution expressing concern over “the grave situation of Palestinian women in the occupied Palestinian territory… resulting from the severe impact of the ongoing illegal Israeli occupation and all its manifestations.”

Blame the occupation
The draft resolution blamed Israel for gender inequality in Muslim society, saying, “The Israeli occupation remains the major obstacle for Palestinian women with regard to their advancement, self-reliance, and integration in the development of their society.” It also called on Israel to “facilitate the return of all refugees and displaced Palestinian women and children,” a reference to the Arab demand that descendants of Arabs who fled Israel during the War of Independence be allowed to “return” to Israel.

The IRIN article bears a picture not of violence within Gaza society, but rather, of a Gaza woman mourning her son who died in an Israeli counterterrorist operation.

While IRIN and the Gaza activists it quoted sought to blame Israel for the violence against Gaza women, stating that rates of violence are “certainly higher” in Gaza than elsewhere, the violence reported in Gaza is not dissimilar to that in surrounding Muslim countries.

In Egypt, an estimated 33 percent of women are beaten by their husbands, and an even higher number report being beaten by their fathers or brothers. Studies show that approximately 40 percent of married Turkish women are beaten by their husbands. The frequency of domestic violence is similarly high in Lebanon and Jordan.

Daily Deadly Rockets Into Israel…Who Cares?

Written by Marty Roberts on March 18, 2010 – 2:33 pm -

The world, including Obama and Clinton and Co.’s US, are more interested in the “damage” done by Israel building apartments for her citizens than they are in the daily death toll of palestinian rockets and missiles on Israel. More than 100 rockets fired into Israel since the end of Israel’s “criminal” Operation Cast Lead into Gaza to stop the preceding 8 years of attacks.
Where’s the outrage? Where’s the UN commisiions of inquiry? What about some charges of war crimes?
No chance, is there???

Gaza rocket kills man in southern Israel

A rocket fired by Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip on Thursday killed a migrant worker in the northern Negev.

Reprinted from HaAretz.com

Paramedics brought the man to the infirmary at Moshav Nativ Ha’asara, but declared him dead shortly after. This was the third rocket fired from the Gaza Strip in less than 24 hours, according to the Israel Defense Forces.

One rocket hit an open area in the south Wednesday night. There were no casualties in the incident, but two women were treated for shock after hearing the Color Red rocket alert.

Two more rockets were fired on Tuesday at the western Negev, causing no casualties or damages. Residents of nearby communities said they did not hear the rocket alert before the explosion.

The rocket on Thursday was launched as European Union’s foreign affairs chief was visiting the Hamas-controlled enclave.

The EU’s top diplomat, Briton Catherine Ashton, had crossed into the Gaza Strip from Israel about an hour before the attack, the first deadly strike from the territory since the end in January 2009 of Israel’s Gaza war.

More than 100 rockets have been fired from Gaza at Israel since Operation Cast Lead ended in January 2009, according to the Israel Defense Forces.

Israel has responsed to strikes since the war with air raids, targeting militants and suspected weapons-manufacturing facilities in the territory.

Hamas Islamists, who seized the Gaza Strip in 2007 in fighting with forces loyal to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, have been urging other militant groups not to mount attacks on Israel, voicing concern about retaliation.

An unknown Gaza group, Ansar al-Sunna, claimed responsibility for the attack, launched a day before the international Quartet of Middle East peace mediators was to meet in Moscow to discuss ways to revive Israeli-Palestinian talks

Bad Hair Day in Gaza

Written by Marty Roberts on March 5, 2010 – 11:17 am -

Since gay men are also prosecuted by the Islamic extremists in the Hamas government, I guess this ban is aimed at the straight male palestinian hairdressers…But then again, the Islamic sharia law in Gaza requires all women to have their hair completely covered at all times, so what are these guys dressing, anyway?
Hamas Hairdresser

Hamas bans men from working in women’s hairdressers

The Palestinian Islamist group Hamas has banned men in the Gaza Strip from working in women’s hair salons, vowing to arrest and try offenders

Reprinted from Telegraph.co.uk

“The Palestinian authorities (in Gaza) have decided to ban men from working in women’s beauty parlours following instructions from Interior Minister Fathi Hammad,” said a statement on the website of the Hamas-run police force in Gaza.

“Anyone who breaches this decision will be arrested and tried.”

The announcement is part of a campaign by Hamas to introduce more Islamic customs to the Gaza Strip.

The majority of Gaza residents are conservative Muslims, but Hamas is under growing pressure from radical groups to prove its fundamentalist credentials by imposing harsher edicts.

Women are forbidden from showing their hair in public to men who are not in their family.

Over the last three years, several beauty parlours and hair salons in the Gaza Strip have been the target of explosions and other attacks, which Hamas have blamed on radical Islamist groups who share the ideology of al Qaeda.

Such groups seek to defy Hamas rule in Gaza and criticise its leaders for not implementing strict Islamic law.

Gaza Blockade?…I Don’t Think So

Written by Marty Roberts on February 21, 2010 – 4:24 pm -

Hmmmm…Maybe Israel ought to be pressuring the United States to open up HER southern border. After all, the Mexicans trying to get in to the U.S. aren’t really trying to blow too many things up, are they? I think that they mostly want to work menial jobs that most Americans don’t want, and take care of their families.

Unlike Israel’s not-so-friendly neighbors to the south (Gaza), who continue to assault Southern Israel with rockets, mortars, missiles and suicide bombers…

What’s good for the goose, eh?

Barak Obama
U.S. President Obama

Congressmen press Obama on Gaza blockade

Fifty-four members of Congress send letter to US president urging him to pressure Israel into ending ‘collective punishment of Palestinian residents of the Gaza Strip’

Yitzhak Benhorin

WASHINGTON – Fifty-four congressmen sent a letter to US President Barack Obama last week urging him to pressure Israel into alleviating the blockade on the Gaza Strip. The letter’s signatories are from the left of the political spectrum.

The initiators are Congressman Keith Ellison of Minnesota, the only Muslim representative in Congress, and Jim McDermott of Washington, who are both democrats.

The letter reads: “We recognize that the Israeli government has imposed restrictions on Gaza out of a legitimate and keenly felt fear of continued terrorist action by Hamas and other militant groups. This concern must be addressed without resulting in the de facto collective punishment of the Palestinian residents of the Gaza Strip.”

They implored Obama to demand Israel relieve the residents of the Strip as part of his efforts to achieve peace in the Middle East.

“We ask you to press for immediate relief for the citizens of Gaza as an urgent component of your broader Middle East peace efforts,” the letter said.

The initiative is not slated to develop into legislation in Congress, nor is it expected to make waves beyond receiving a headline in the Minnesota Independent newspaper and support of the Peace Now and J-Street organizations in the US.

The US administration’s current public stance is that the US is committed to the welfare of the residents of the Gaza Strip and that Israel must enable the transfer of humanitarian goods into Gaza.

However, in recent months the US has been satisfied with Israeli mitigations in the area. The Obama administration would like to see more easements, but is understanding towards the Israeli position that until the matter of captive soldier Gilad Shalit Israel resolved, there will be no more easements.

The US opposes the Fatah-Hamas Palestinian unity government and is assisting Egypt in the construction of the underground barrier between Egypt and Gaza, which will block the entrance of vital goods into the Strip.
