In the Middle East, Things Are RARELY What They Seem to Be

Written by Marty Roberts on June 15, 2010 – 1:25 pm -

Lovers of Peace…Be Careful What You Wish For!!…

New Show/Podcast!!!

middle east region

The Middle East..What You Think is Rarely True

Israel’s Arab neighbors are indifferent to the possibility of a nuclear-armed Iran, right? WRONG!!…And they are ready to help arch-enemy ISRAEL stop the mullahs,,,
The palestinians are united in their desire for a new homeland…of course!!…Wrong again…Listen to the facts and the historical reasons why…
All of the nations of the Middle East (except Israel, of course) are united in their desire to support the palestinians and have them achieve their goal of an independent state…Well, right…except that NONE of them want it to happen!!!…Listen to understand why the Middle East countries would like nothing better that to NEVER see the creation of a palestinian state, Islamist or otherwise (with the possible exception of Syria, who simply could not care less one way or the other)
Finally, everyone would agree that the blockade on Gaza MUST be removed…Gaza MUST be opened up, correct?…Well, yes, everybody, that is, except for the countries in the MIddle East, like Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and, oh yeah, don’t forget the ruling palestinian Fatah Party themselves.

So, if you really want peace, if you really hate war…better be careful about your campaign to open up Gaza…Better be careful about allowing the current delicate balance of power in the Middle East to be upset…In short…Pray for Israel’s strength…

Israeli-Palestinian Indirect Peace Talks Are Due to Start…A Show About Nothing

Written by Marty Roberts on May 5, 2010 – 5:02 pm -

Mahmoud Abbas

Mahmoud Abbas..Not Really Negotiating

Everyone is all excited that the Israelis and palestinians are returning to the negotiating table, albeit, for “indirect” peace talks…

But as I listen to all the reports today, I see that the palestinians are not really returning to talks at all, nor are they planning on negotiating anything.

It turns out that the palestinians have agree to return to indirect talks to decide whether or not they will return to indirect talks!…They have not yet officially agreed even to this…And THAT is only on the condition that the Americans give them guarantees in advance that the rigid, unrealistic position of the Arab League vs. Israel will be adopted before any talking even starts…And that is only if the Israels agree in advance to stop building homes for their citizens anywhere that the palestinians decide that they should not build, including all of Jerusalem, the Capital City of Israel…

And it seems that, indeed, the Americans ARE giving those guarantees in advance! Apparently, this is what serves US President Obama’s agenda, and the heck with Israel…

How stupid…how dangerous…what a waste of Israel’s time and energy…

Abbas Calls Israel ‘Extremist;’ Netanyahu to Meet Mitchell

Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas said Wednesday that the Israeli government is “extremist” and must halt all building for Jews on land claimed by the PA before it agrees to American-mediated talks. Asked if he would sit down to talk if Israel continues to build Jewish homes on land claimed by the PA, Abbas said, “Certainly not. This is our land.”

Reprinted from Israelnationalnews.com Tzvi Ben Gedlyahu

The harsh words, stated in an interview with CNN a day after consultations with Saudi Arabia, came hours before Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is to meet with U.S. Middle East envoy George Mitchell in what so far are one-sided talks.

If the PA officially agrees to turn the discussions into a two-sided affair, the okay will not come before Saturday, when senior PA officials meet. Nevertheless, Mitchell is scheduled to meet with Abbas on Friday, after sitting down with Netanyahu Wednesday afternoon. At the same time, Abbas is in Egypt for consultations following a conference with Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah in preparation for presenting to Mitchell conditions for a PA state.

The “negotiations” that the Obama administration propose are theoretical because the PA has said the only subject on the table is for Israel to accept the Arab world’s position. The PA probably will not refuse to approve the talks unless it is sure it can place a diplomatic failure on Israel’s shoulders for its refusal to accept its conditions.

Neither Israel nor the PA has wanted to take the blame for failure of the Obama administration’s latest Middle East diplomatic move, but each side has tried to paint the other as being guilty for not agreeing to meet in good faith.

IDF Intelligence officer Brig. Gen. Yosef Baidatz told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Tuesday, “Abbas is preparing the ground for the talks to fail. He believes the failure will expose Israel’s true face. He is pessimistic about the outcome and believes the ball is in Israel’s court.”

The mediated talks, if they take place in effect are between Israel and the Arab world, represented by the PA. The issue of a new PA country, including Jerusalem’s holiest sites, is at the center of an Arab strategy to force Israel to surrender all of the land that was occupied by Jordan and Egypt before the Six-Day War in 1967.

Since taking over the PA after the death of Yasser Arafat five years ago, Abbas has leaned heavily on the Arab world and its allies for advice and support. He told the Saudi Arabian newspaper Okaz on Tuesday, “The support of the kingdom to our cause springs from its strong belief that what it is doing for the Palestinian cause is a duty dictated on it by its conscience and its faith.”

Just the Latest Excuse for the Palestinians Not to Talk Peace With Israel…And a Lame One, at Best

Written by Marty Roberts on March 11, 2010 – 5:44 pm -

I told you that they were just looking for another excuse NOT to come to the peace table. After all, why should the palestinians negotiate when the world is ready to give them everything they want on a silver platter, without them having to give up ANYTHING…
So now, they have their newest excuse for not negotiating…Israel is building homes for her citizens in her capital city….BTW, a building plan that was approved THREE YEARS AGO!!!

Amr Moussa: Talks on hold

Abbas reportedly halts indirect negotiations due to Ramat Shlomo plans

Reprinted from Jerusalem Post

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will not enter indirect peace talks with Israel as planned, Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa said overnight Wednesday, due to the approval of plans to build 1,600 housing units in Ramat Shlomo in east Jerusalem.

“The Palestinian president has decided that he does not intend to enter negotiations at this stage,” Moussa said at a press conference in Cairo.

A senior PA official in Ramallah had said Wednesday that the PA would resume talks with Israel in the coming days, despite the threats and strong condemnations coming from Ramallah.

The official’s comments came after visiting US Vice President Joe Biden condemned the plan for the second time in 24 hours, this time standing in Ramallah next to Abbas.

“Yesterday the decision by the Israeli government to advance planning for new housing units in east Jerusalem undermined that very trust, the trust that we need right now in order to begin as well as have profitable negotiations. That is why I immediately condemned the action,” Biden said after meeting Abbas.

With American Nudging, Israel/Palestinian Peace Talks Are Set to Begin Again

Written by Marty Roberts on March 10, 2010 – 5:04 pm -

What a bunch of phoney-baloney…As former head of Israel’s Mossad Ben-Levy just said on the radio…Obama and the US certainly know that there is not a snowball’s chance in Florida of successful peace talks with the palestinians. They know that the palestinians are not at all serious about making peace with Israel. But Obama has another agenda, which he clearly stated at the beginning of his term. He does NOT want to be perceived as an enemy of Islam and the Moslem countries, which by definition makes friendship with America’s best friend, Israel, problematic. So Obama MUST be seen as furthering the palestinians’ alleged goal of carving a state out of Israel’s territory, which means peace talks, however futile they may be.
I would assume that Israel’s leadership is also well aware of this. At least Netanyahu is…Coalition member Labor Party head and Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak might be another story…

Biden holds Palestinian talks after condemning Israel

The US vice-president Joe Biden is holding talks with Palestinian leaders, a day after condemning Israel’s announcement of 1,600 new homes for Jewish settlers in east Jerusalem.

Israel’s announcement coincided with Mr Biden’s arrival and came days after Palestinians agreed to re-enter indirect peace talks with Israel.

The vice-president condemned the decision, saying it undermined the trust needed on both sides. He displayed his anger by turning up 90 minutes late to a dinner with Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Israel’s own defence ministry also blasted the move, saying it would affect peace negotiations with the Palestinians.

Mr Biden has since held talks with Palestinian leaders in the West Bank, who say Israel’s decision is dangerous because it will hinder negotiations.

Palestinians want East Jerusalem as their capital in a future state.

Negotiations With The Palestinians Have No Meaning

Written by Marty Roberts on February 21, 2010 – 10:44 am -

Once again, the palestinian leadership under Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazzen) proves that the negotiaion process with Israel is meaningless. What is the purpose of negotiations if one party will only “negotiate” issues that have bee pre-determined prior to the actual talks? This is what the palestinians insist on…

Abbas considers options on peace talks restart

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is considering his options on resuming indirect peace talks with Israel after meeting U.S. and European diplomats this week, a senior aide said Friday.

RAMALLAH, West Bank (Reuters)

“We have asked for an official meeting of Arab ministers of the follow-up committee and have told them that our consultations, coordinations and inquiries are still ongoing with the Americans, Europeans, Russians and the United Nations,” chief negotiator Saeb Erekat told Reuters.

Erekat dismissed an Israeli newspaper report Friday that Abbas had told Austrian Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger at a meeting this week in Ramallah that U.S.-mediated peace talks could resume in the coming days.

The Haaretz report said Spindelegger told Israeli officials he had heard from Abbas of his readiness to resume talks.

“The one who announces the Palestinian position is the Palestinian side, not Haaretz or the Austrian foreign minister,” Erekat said.

An Israeli diplomatic source in Jerusalem said: “There is no official word from the Americans or the Palestinians but there have been all kinds of messages from Western diplomats indicating that talks could restart.”

There was no comment from Vienna.

Abbas has been seeking details from U.S. officials on how a proposal that Washington would host “proximity talks” involving Israeli and Palestinian envoys would work.

Aides say Abbas wants guarantees that any such talks would quickly move to seeking final agreements on the core issues of the conflict — borders, settlements, right of return for Palestinian refugees and Jerusalem — witin specific terms of reference and a set timeline.

Abbas broke off negotiations with the previous Israeli government in December 2008 in protest at its offensive in the Gaza Strip and has refused to hold talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu while Israel expands West Bank settlements.

In November, Netanyahu ordered a 10-month building freeze in some settlements on land Israel captured in 1967. The United States and Western powers want Abbas to drop his demand for a total freeze and get back to negotiations.

Written by Marty Roberts on February 18, 2010 – 5:18 pm -

Even if one side is Israel…Israel wants peace..her enemies do not..when will everyone else GET this?..

No Peace

No Palestinian partners for peace

…We try and try, but it takes TWO sides..Israel cannot make peace with herself…her enemies have to want peace with an Israel that still exists, not just obsess on a desire to wipe the Jewish State off the face of the earth…

Proposed US Benchmarks for Israeli-Palestinian Peace are Ridiculous

Written by Marty Roberts on May 7, 2007 – 8:42 am -

This latest travesty of a peace plan calls for more scheduled, concrete Israeli security concessions, while “demanding” reciprocal photo ops and declarations on the palestinian terrorist side..All Israel has to do is provide her sworn enemies with weapons and means for smuggling terrorists in and out of Israeli territory…The terrorists have to “really try hard” and REALLY mean it when they say that they are going to stop killing and maiming Israelis…A close-up look at the realities of the new US proposal…All this and more on “The Marty Roberts Show”…
