Thank you, America for taking the correct decision at the United Nations Security Council…

I am talking about the palestinian-sponsored resolution passed in the UN Security Council, but vetoed by the United States calling for a condemnation of Israeli home-building…one more action that will only harden the palestinian negotiating positions and bring any progress towards a peace agreement with Israel to a screeching halt, as indeed it did. Ariel Sharon’s 14 Road-Map “Red Lines”

When the Israeli Cabinet voted in favor of the Road Map in May, 2003, made it contingent upon 14 “comments” that Israel submitted to the Americans. The exact wording of the resolution:

“The Government of Israel… resolves that all of Israel’s comments, as addressed in the [Bush] Administration’s statement, will be implemented in full during the implementation phase of the Road Map.”

Emphasizing the importance of these 14 reservations, the Prime Minister called them:

“red lines beyond which we cannot and will not withdraw.”

Everyone is all excited that the Israelis and palestinians are returning to the negotiating table, albeit, for “indirect” peace talks…

But as I listen to all the reports today, I see that the palestinians are not really returning to talks at all, nor are they planning on negotiating anything.

It turns out that the palestinians have agree to return to indirect talks to decide whether or not they will return to indirect talks!…They have not yet officially agreed even to this…And THAT is only on the condition that the Americans give them guarantees in advance that the rigid, unrealistic position … Read entire article...
