The American president is not omnipotent. Another president, another time, any agreements made by a predecessor can be voided or countermanded. Then, there’s the U.S.Congress that sometimes just seems to have a will of it’s own now, doesn’t it?…

History does not speak well for the veracity of U.S. presidential promises…Remember the US/Taiwan defense treaty in 1954, Israel’s retreat from the Sinai with US promises in 1957, President Ford’s Golan Heights promise in 1975, Ronald Reagan’s stipulations about Saudi Arabian F-15s in 1982, Bush’s promise to reward Shamir for Israeli restraint in 1991, Clinton’s promised reward for Israel’s retreat from Southern Lebanon in 2000…and then there’s the story of the US Embassy move from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem…Every one…a promise made…a promise broken, by a U.S. president…
The Israeli Prime Minister would do well to take Obama’s promises with more than a grain of salt…

It’s the US Government That is Betraying Israel Now, NOT the Other Way Around
Written by Marty Roberts on March 15, 2010 – 1:22 pm -Read the text of this 1990 US Congressional resolution below…It should open your eyes…
When the US Congress passes a resolution, does it have any meaning whatsoever the day after? Can the word of the United States of America be trusted? Maybe it is ISRAEL that should be insulted by the affront of US Secretary of State Clinton and Vice President Biden. Israel’s policy has been clearly stated, and it is the correct one. The US congress has clearly supported that position in the past. What has changed, other than the leadership of America?

This US Congressional Resolution, dated April 24, 1990 clearly states America’s support of Jerusalem as the un-divided capital of Israel and specifically confirms the RIGHT OF JEWS TO LIVE FREELY IN ANY PART OF THE JEWISH CAPITAL JERUSALEM!!!
US Congressional resolution, April 24, 1990
“House Resolution Expressing Support for Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital
Whereas the State of Israel has declared Jerusalem to be its capital;
Whereas from 1948 to 1967 Jerusalem was a divided city and Israeli citizens
of all faiths were not permitted access to holy sites in the area controlled
by Jordan;
Whereas since 1967 Jerusalem has been a united city administered by Israel
and persons of all religious faiths have been guaranteed full access to holy
sites within the city; Whereas the President and the Secretary of State have
demonstrated their strong desire to achieve a just and lasting peace in the
Middle East and have worked diligently toward that end;
Whereas ambiguous statements by the Government of the United States
concerning the right of Jews to live in all parts of Jerusalem raise
concerns in Israel that Jerusalem might one day be redivided and access to
religious sites in Jerusalem denied to Israeli citizens; and the search for
a lasting peace in the region: Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the House
of Representatives (the Senate concurring), That the Congress
(1) acknowledges that Jerusalem is and should remain the capital of the
State of Israel;
(2) strongly believes that Jerusalem must remain an undivided city in which
the rights of every ethnic religious group are protected; and
(3) calls upon all parties involved in the search for peace to maintain
their strong efforts to bring about negotiations between Israel and
Palestinian representatives.”
White House Ups Ante With New Criticism of Israel
The White House is raising the stakes with Israel, calling it an “insult” and an “affront” that the Jewish nation would continue plans to build 1,600 new apartments during a construction freeze aimed at re-igniting peace talks with Palestinians.

WASHINGTON — The White House is raising the stakes with Israel, calling it an “insult” and an “affront” that the Jewish nation would continue plans to build 1,600 new apartments during a construction freeze aimed at re-igniting peace talks with Palestinians.
Palestinians have not sought as part of their capital the area of northeast Jerusalem where the Jewish settlement of Ramat Shlomo resides, but the decision to announce construction plans just as Vice President Joe Biden was visiting the region led to strained meetings that continues past his return.
Biden expressed his displeasure by showing up late to a dinner with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in order to issue a statement of condemnation.
On Sunday, President Obama’s chief political adviser David Axelrod told ABC’s “This Week” that the move undermines the fragile effort to bring peace to the troubled region and called the timing of the announcement “very destructive.”
Axelrod would not say what has been discussed in diplomatic talks but suggested the decision by Israel was “calculated to undermine” peace talks with the Palestinians. He added that because Israel is a special ally to the United States “for just that very reason that was not the right way to behave.”
But White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Netanyahu’s apology on Sunday was a “good start” to rebuild trust, but more needs to be done.
“I think what would be an even better start is coming to the table with constructive ideas for constructive and trustful dialogue about moving the peace process forward,” Gibbs said.
“There’s no doubt that events like last week weaken the trust that’s needed for both sides to come together and have honest discussions about peace in the Middle East. So there’s no doubt that that was not a bright spot for the Israeli government.”
The State Department on Friday outlined what was described as a stern 45-minute call by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to the prime minister. The unusually tough dressing down reportedly took Netanyahu by surprise. On Sunday he announced plans to set up a committee to review processes to ensure an embarrassment like the one with Biden doesn’t happen again.
Though Netanyahu had not included East Jerusalem in an earlier decision to halt construction for 10 months, the Jerusalem District Planning and Building committee canceled two meetings scheduled for this week after Clinton’s call, Haaretz newspaper reported Sunday.

Billions of annual aid to Israel pays off big-time for the Americans…Those who think that America should punish her closest ally, Israel, by cutting off economic aid need to think, and then think again…The economic and military benefits that the U.S. receives from her strategic relationship with Israel FAR exceed the billions invested in the Jewish State…Also…A look at “Arab” East Jerusalem…What is really going on there?…What communities are we talking about, and why do the Jewish communities in the capital, Jerusalem, need to be expanded?…What do the local Arabs REALLY think about the building boom?…All this and more on “The Marty Roberts Show”…Listen to the show below…

US VP Biden Condemns Israel for Building in Her Capital, Jerusalem
Written by Marty Roberts on March 10, 2010 – 4:49 pm -The US has a lot of nerve…not to mention the UN and the Arab League. Basically, Israel building homes for her citizens in her capital is none of their goldang business!!
First of all, Jerusalem has been the capital of the Jewish state for more than 2000 years. It has NOT ever been the capital of any other country. Anyone can claim anyplace as the capital of their country, but first, they should have a country, and then, it would help if there was some sort of historic basis to their claim…Neither of which is the case when it comes to so-called palestinians and Jerusalem. In case you forgot, Jerusalem is city #3 in importance to Islam…They pray with their behinds facing Jerusalem. Every Jew in the world faces Jerusalem to pray, wherever they are in the world.
Secondly, if you ask the Arabs living in the neighborhood where the building is slated to take place…They are HAPPY to have the additional housing units in their neighborhood. The tradesmen and shopkeepers cannot wait to start earning money from the increased population in their area. I just heard some of them interviewed on the radio, and, although fearful to speak out in public, that is what they said.
Oh, and I condemn the decision by the US government to build new apartments in Washington D.C….Very counterproductive…(even if you Do look cute wearing that silly black yarmulke)

Biden Condemns Construction Project in Israel’s Capital
U.S. Vice President Joe Biden flatly condemned a years-old city construction project in Israel’s capital late Tuesday, saying it is “undermining the trust” needed to jump-start final status talks with the Palestinian Authority.
Reprinted from INN Hana Levi Julian
“I condemn the decision by the government of Israel to advance planning for new housing units in East Jerusalem,”
Biden said in a prepared statement. “The substance and timing of the announcement, particularly with the launching of proximity talks, is precisely the kind of step that undermines the trust we need right now and runs counter to the constructive discussions that I’ve had here in Israel.”The term “proximity talks” is the new phrase that refers to final status negotiations between Israel and the PA, so called because the Obama administration will now be serving as an intermediary. PA Chairman and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas and his aides have refused to meet for direct talks with Prime Minister Netanyahu and other top government officials.
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also slammed the government’s approval of the project, issuing a statement Wednesday that said “the settlement activity is contrary to Israel’s obligations under the Roadmap, and undermines any movement towards a viable peace process.”
According to the Interior Ministry, which also issued a statement Tuesday night, the authorization for the project, a plan by the Jerusalem District Planning Committee to build 1,600 housing units in eastern Jerusalem, was routine. Interior Minister Eli Yishai said the announcement had been a “procedural matter,” and not a deliberate attempt to insult Biden or anyone else. He added that he regretted the timing and would have delayed the announcement had he been aware it was coming up.
The project, slated for the hareidi-religious neighborhood of Ramat Shlomo, had been on the table for more than three years, did not require approval of the prime minister, and has been submitted for public comment – a 60-day process. It is still subject to final approval, and still must be reviewed by the committee. If after that process it passes muster, the project will extend the existing neighborhood by adding an access road from the west, upgrading the current entrance road, and adding apartments on the southeastern side. Each apartment will be approximately 120 square meters (1,290 square feet). The total project will comprise some 580 dunams (143 acres).
The Interior Ministry said in its statement that Netanyahu had been unaware of the plan and its timing.
Biden’s statement was issued at the close of his second day in the region on a visit that was promoted primarily as confidence-building mission meant to emphasize America’s support for Israel. “There is no space between us,” Biden told Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu during their meeting in Jerusalem on Monday.
The prime minister responded by telling journalists following their two-hour meeting that the American vice president was “a real friend to me, and a real friend to Israel and to the Jewish people.” Biden is the latest in a parade of American officials to arrive in Israel in recent weeks on a mission to keep the Netanyahu administration in line with American policy on Iran and talks with the PA.
Last November, Netanyahu responded to pressure from the White House by authorizing a freeze on construction in Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria. However, he was unwilling to extend that freeze to the neighborhoods of Jerusalem that were restored to the capital following the 1967 Six Day War — a point of contention with the PA which has refused to resume talks with Israel until those areas are included.
